Growing a Passiflora (passion flower) indoors can be very rewarding—their exotic blooms are stunning—but they do need the right conditions.
🌿 Light Requirements
Passiflora loves light—this is the #1 factor indoors.
- Place it near a south- or west-facing window
- Needs 4–6+ hours of direct sunlight daily
- If light is weak, consider a grow light
👉 Without enough light, it’ll grow leaves but won’t flower.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
- Ideal temperature: 18–27°C
- Avoid cold drafts and temps below 10°C
- Prefers moderate humidity
💡 Tip: If your room is dry, mist occasionally or keep a water tray nearby.
🪴 Pot & Soil
- Use a pot with good drainage holes
- Soil should be:
- Well-draining
- Slightly rich (mix garden soil + compost + sand/perlite)
👉 They hate “wet feet” (waterlogged roots).
💧 Watering
- Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy
- Water when top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry
- Reduce watering in winter
⚠️ Overwatering is a common mistake—leads to root rot.
🌱 Feeding (Fertilizer)
- Feed every 2–3 weeks during growing season (spring–summer)
- Use a balanced liquid fertilizer or one slightly higher in potassium for blooms
🌿 Support & Pruning
Passiflora is a climbing vine, not a compact plant.
- Provide:
- Trellis
- String support
- Prune regularly to:
- Control size
- Encourage bushier growth
