Maloti Lata (Malati Vine) – Aganosma dichotoma is a beautiful evergreen climber with highly fragrant white flowers that often develop a creamy-yellow center as they age. It blooms heavily during the monsoon and post-monsoon season, making it an excellent plant for pergolas, arches, fences, and balconies.
Light
- ✅ Best: 4–6 hours of direct morning sunlight.
- Can tolerate full sun if the soil stays moist.
- In very hot areas, afternoon shade helps prevent leaf scorching.
- Too much shade = fewer flowers.
Soil
Use a well-draining, fertile mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost or well-rotted cow manure/vermicompost
- 20% river sand
- 10% cocopeat or leaf mold
Soil pH: 6.0–7.5
Watering
- Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil becomes dry.
- During summer: every 1–2 days (depending on pot size).
- During monsoon: water only if the soil starts drying.
- During winter: reduce watering.
Avoid waterlogging, as it can cause root rot.
Fertilizer
Feed once every 20–30 days during the growing season.
Good options:
- Vermicompost: 1–2 handfuls
- Well-rotted cow manure
- Bone meal (small amount once every 2 months)
- Banana peel compost occasionally for potassium
For more flowers:
- Use a phosphorus-rich fertilizer (such as NPK 10-26-26 or 0-52-34) at half the recommended dose once every 30–45 days during the flowering season.
