The white double tagar plant (botanically known as Tabernaemontana divaricata, often called double chandni or tagar) is a beautiful flowering shrub with fragrant, rose-like white blooms. Growing it indoors in a pot is possible, but it needs the right care.
🌱 1. Pot & Soil Setup
- Pot size: Start with a 10–12 inch pot with drainage holes
- Soil mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost (vermicompost or cow dung)
- 20% sand
- 10% cocopeat
- Soil should be well-draining but slightly moist
☀️ 2. Light Requirements (Most Important Indoors)
- Needs bright indirect sunlight
- Place near:
- East-facing window (best)
- South-facing window with curtain filter
- Avoid deep shade → plant will not flower properly
👉 If your room is dark, consider moving it outdoors for a few hours daily.
💧 3. Watering
- Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy
- Water when the top 1–2 inches feel dry
- Avoid overwatering → roots may rot
💡 In West Bengal’s humidity, watering 2–3 times a week is usually enough.
🌡️ 4. Temperature & Humidity
- Ideal temperature: 20–35°C
- Loves humidity (good for your region 👍)
- Avoid:
- Cold drafts
- AC air directly blowing on plant
