Coconut husk chips are an excellent growing medium because they retain moisture while allowing air to reach the roots.
Before use
- Soak the chips in clean water for 12–24 hours.
- Rinse them once or twice to remove dust and excess salts.
- Drain excess water before mixing into potting media.
How to use
For orchids
- Use 100% coconut husk chips as the potting medium.
- Repot every 2–3 years as the chips decompose.
For anthuriums and other aroids
- Mix:
- 40–50% coconut husk chips
- 30–40% cocopeat
- 20–30% perlite, charcoal, or bark
For indoor plants
- Add 20–30% husk chips to your regular potting mix to improve aeration.
For fruit plants and vegetables
- Mix 10–20% husk chips into the soil to improve drainage and reduce compaction.
