Yellow Oxalis (often sold as yellow-flowering Oxalis) can be propagated quite easily from its small bulbs/corms. The best method is to plant the bulbs directly in a light, well-draining potting mix.

🌱 How to grow Yellow Oxalis from bulbs

1. Choose a pot

  • Use a 6–8 inch pot with drainage holes.
  • You can plant several bulbs together for a fuller display.

2. Prepare the soil
Use a loose, well-draining mix such as:

  • 40% garden soil
  • 30% cocopeat
  • 20% compost/vermicompost
  • 10% sand or perlite

Avoid heavy, waterlogged soil.

3. Plant the bulbs

  • Place each bulb about 1–2 inches deep.
  • Keep the pointed/growing end facing upward if it is clearly visible.
  • Space bulbs around 2–3 inches apart.
  • Cover lightly with soil.

4. Water
Give a thorough watering immediately after planting. After that, water when the top layer of soil starts to dry.

Don’t keep the pot constantly wet because the bulbs can rot.

5. Sunlight
Yellow Oxalis grows well with:

  • 3–5 hours of morning sunlight, or
  • bright, indirect light for much of the day.

In very hot weather, protect it from harsh afternoon sun.

6. Sprouting
Depending on temperature and bulb condition, shoots can appear in roughly 1–3 weeks. Once established, the plant produces leaves and eventually yellow flowers.

🌼 For more flowers

Give it good morning sunlight and a small amount of balanced fertilizer or compost every 3–4 weeks during active growth. Don’t overfeed with nitrogen, or you may get lots of leaves with fewer flowers.

☀️ Important for Indian weather

If you’re growing it in West Bengal, keep the pot in morning sun + afternoon protection, particularly during very hot periods. Good drainage is more important than frequent watering.

Propagation: Once the plant becomes established, the underground bulbs/corms multiply. You can lift the clump during its dormant period, separate the small bulbs, and replant them to make more plants.
