🪴 How to grow Strawberry Guava in a pot
1. Choose the right pot
For a young plant, start with a 12–16 inch pot with several drainage holes.
As it grows, move it to around a 18–24 inch pot. A wider, heavier pot is useful because the plant can become top-heavy.
2. Potting mix
Use a loose, well-draining mixture such as:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost/vermicompost
- 20% cocopeat
- 10% coarse sand/perlite
The important thing is good drainage. Don’t keep the roots constantly wet.
☀️ 3. Sunlight
Give it around 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
For good flowering and fruiting, strong morning and afternoon sunlight is much better than keeping it in shade.
💧 4. Watering
Water deeply when the upper 2–3 inches of soil becomes dry.
During hot weather, watering may be more frequent. During heavy monsoon periods, reduce watering if the soil is already staying wet.
Don’t keep a saucer full of standing water underneath the pot.
🌿 5. Fertilizing
For a potted fruiting plant:
- Add compost/vermicompost every 30–45 days.
- During active growth, you can use a balanced fruit-plant fertilizer according to its label.
- Before and during flowering/fruit development, avoid excessive nitrogen because it can encourage leaves rather than flowers and fruits.
