Celosia (Cockscomb) indoors in a pot is very doable if you mimic its warm, sunny, and slightly dry-loving environment.
🌱 1. Choosing the Right Pot & Soil
- Pot: Use a container with drainage holes (very important).
- Size: At least 6–8 inches deep for one plant.
- Soil mix:
- Well-draining potting mix
- Add a bit of sand or perlite for aeration
- Avoid heavy, water-retaining soil → roots can rot.
☀️ 2. Light Requirements
- Celosia needs bright light (6–8 hours daily).
- Best indoor spots:
- South or west-facing window
- If sunlight is weak, use a grow light.
👉 Without enough light, flowers will be small or won’t form.
💧 3. Watering
- Keep soil slightly moist but not soggy.
- Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry.
- Avoid overwatering → biggest mistake with celosia.
🌡️ 4. Temperature & Humidity
- Ideal temperature: 20–30°C
- Keep away from:
- Cold drafts
- AC vents
- Normal indoor humidity is fine.
🌿 5. Fertilizing
- Feed every 2–3 weeks with:
- Balanced liquid fertilizer (like 10-10-10)
- Don’t over-fertilize → too many leaves, fewer flowers.
✂️ 6. Pruning & Maintenance
- Remove faded flowers (deadheading) to encourage new blooms.
- Trim leggy growth to keep plant compact.
