Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) is an easy-care plant that grows well in containers and can live for many years.
🪴 Pot & Soil
- Use a pot with good drainage holes.
- Start with a 8–12 inch pot for a small plant.
- Use loose, fast-draining soil such as garden soil + sand/perlite + compost.
- Avoid heavy soil that holds water for a long time.
☀️ Sunlight
- Give it bright light.
- A few hours of gentle morning sunlight is excellent.
- If kept indoors, place it close to a bright window.
💧 Watering
- Allow the soil to become mostly dry before watering again.
- Water thoroughly until some water comes out of the drainage holes.
- Empty excess water from the saucer.
- During rainy or cool periods, water less frequently.
🌱 Feeding
- Feed with a light amount of balanced plant fertilizer during active growth, roughly once every 1–2 months.
- Avoid overfeeding.
✂️ Pruning
- Remove completely dry or damaged leaves.
- You generally don’t need regular pruning.
🔄 Repotting
- Ponytail Palm prefers being slightly root-bound, so don’t repot too often.
- Repot when roots are filling the pot or coming out of the drainage holes, usually every few years.
