Hybrid Kolkata Pati Lemon Healthy Plant

Kolkata Pati lemon (Pati Lebu) is a fast-growing, fragrant citrus variety that grows very well in the climate of West Bengal. With proper care, a grafted plant can start fruiting within 1–2 years, while seed-grown plants may take 4–6 years.

☀️ Sunlight

• Give 6–8 hours of direct sunlight every day.
• Full sun produces more flowers and larger fruits.
• During very hot summer afternoons (above 40°C), light shade is acceptable.

🪴 Pot or Ground

In a pot:

• Use a 20–24 inch pot (minimum 50–60 liters).
• Ensure there are plenty of drainage holes.

In the ground:

• Keep 10–12 feet spacing between plants.

🌱 Best Soil Mix

Use a well-draining mix:

• 40% garden soil
• 30% compost or well-rotted cow dung
• 20% river sand
• 10% cocopeat

Mix in:

• 100–150 g neem cake
• A handful of bone meal or rock phosphate (optional)

The ideal soil pH is 5.5–6.5.

💧 Watering

• Water only when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
• In summer: every 2–3 days (depending on weather).
• During the monsoon: water only if the soil starts drying.
• Never allow waterlogging, as citrus roots rot easily.

🌿 Fertilizer

For a grafted plant:

Every month:

• 1–2 kg well-rotted compost
• 50–100 g neem cake

Every 30–45 days:

• Citrus fertilizer or NPK 19:19:19 (5–10 g per liter as a soil drench or foliar spray).

During flowering:

• Spray 0.5% micronutrient mix once every 20–30 days.
• Add potash (MOP or SOP) to improve flowering and fruit quality.

✂️ Pruning

• Remove dry, diseased, and crossing branches.
• Cut off any shoots growing below the graft union.
• Light pruning after harvesting helps maintain shape.

🌼 Flowering & Fruiting

• Avoid overwatering during flowering.
• Keep the soil evenly moist.
• Do not apply excessive nitrogen, as it encourages leaves instead of flowers.
