Growing a cinnamon (dalchini) plant in a pot is totally doable in India if you mimic its tropical conditions. The plant is usually Cinnamomum verum (also called Sri Lankan cinnamon), though Cinnamomum cassia is more common in local markets.
🌱 1. Choosing the Right Pot & Soil
- Pot size: Start with 10–12 inch pot, later shift to 16–18 inch
- Drainage: Must have holes (cinnamon hates waterlogging)
- Soil mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost/vermicompost
- 20% sand
- 10% cocopeat
👉 Aim for loose, well-draining, slightly acidic soil
☀️ 2. Sunlight Needs
- Prefers bright indirect light
- Can take mild morning sun (2–4 hrs)
- Avoid harsh afternoon sun (especially in West Bengal summers)
💧 3. Watering
- Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy
- Water when top 1–2 inches feel dry
- In summer: every 2–3 days
- In winter: once a week (approx.)
