Star Jasmine (often called Kunda / Chandni / Star jasmine) in a pot works well both indoors and outdoors if you manage sunlight, soil, and watering correctly.
🌱 1. Choose the Right Pot
- Size: 10–14 inch pot minimum
- Must have drainage holes
- Material: Terracotta or plastic both work
Tip: Star jasmine roots don’t like waterlogging, so drainage is very important.
🌿 2. Best Soil Mix
Use a well-draining soil mix:
Ideal mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost or vermicompost
- 20% cocopeat
- 10% sand or perlite
This keeps the soil light, fertile, and well drained.
☀️ 3. Sunlight Needs
Outdoor:
- Needs 4–6 hours sunlight daily
- Morning sun is best
Indoor:
- Keep near a bright window or balcony
- If light is low, flowering will reduce.
💧 4. Watering
- Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feels dry
- In summer: 2–3 times per week
- In winter: once per week
⚠️ Avoid overwatering, which causes root rot.
🌼 5. Fertilizer
Feed every 15–20 days during growing season.
Good options:
- Vermicompost
- Cow dung compost
- Liquid seaweed fertilizer
- Mustard cake liquid fertilizer
This encourages more flowers and healthy leaves.
✂️ 6. Pruning
- Prune lightly after flowering
- Remove dry or leggy branches
Pruning helps the plant become bushy and produce more blooms.
🪴 7. Support for Climbing
Star jasmine is a climber.
Provide:
- Small trellis
- Balcony railing
- Garden support stick
It can also be shaped as a bushy pot plant if trimmed.
