Growing Garlic Vine in a pot is quite easy. It’s a beautiful climber with purple flowers that smell like garlic when crushed.
1. Choose the Right Pot
- Use a large pot (12–16 inches deep) because it’s a climbing vine.
- Make sure the pot has good drainage holes.
- Clay or plastic pots both work.
2. Prepare the Soil Mix
Garlic vine likes well-drained, fertile soil.
Good potting mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost or vermicompost
- 20% cocopeat
- 10% sand
Optional: add a handful of neem cake powder to prevent pests.
3. Planting
You can grow it from cuttings or nursery plants.
Steps:
- Fill the pot with prepared soil.
- Plant the cutting or sapling about 2–3 inches deep.
- Water gently after planting.
4. Sunlight
- Needs full sun to partial sun.
- Ideally 5–7 hours of sunlight daily.
Balcony, terrace, or sunny window works well.
5. Watering
- Keep the soil slightly moist but not soggy.
- Water 2–3 times a week depending on heat.
- In winter, water less.
6. Support for Climbing
Garlic vine is a climber, so provide:
- A trellis
- A bamboo stick
- Balcony railing
This helps it grow faster and bloom better.
