You can grow roses from:

  • 🌹 Cuttings (most common and easy)
  • 🌱 Nursery plants (grafted roses)
  • 🌼 Seeds (slow, takes months)

For beginners, start with a young potted plant or stem cutting.

🪴 2. Soil Preparation

  • Roses love rich, well-draining soil.
  • Ideal mix:
    👉 2 parts garden soil + 1 part compost/manure + 1 part sand or coco peat.
  • pH: slightly acidic (6.0–6.5) is best.

🌞 3. Sunlight

  • Roses need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Morning sunlight is ideal — it keeps leaves dry and prevents fungus.

💧 4. Watering

  • Water deeply but not too often — keep the soil moist, not soggy.
  • Water early morning or evening.
  • Avoid splashing water on leaves (prevents fungal diseases).

🌿 5. Planting (from Cutting)

  1. Cut a 6–8 inch healthy stem below a leaf node.
  2. Remove lower leaves and dip the end in rooting hormone (optional).
  3. Plant in moist soil or a pot with good drainage.
  4. Cover with a plastic bag (mini greenhouse) until new shoots appear (~3–4 weeks).

🍀 6. Fertilizing

  • Feed your rose every 3–4 weeks during growing season (spring to fall).
  • Use:
    • Organic compost or vermicompost
    • Banana peel fertilizer (for potassium)
    • Rose-specific liquid fertilizer

✂️ 7. Pruning

  • Prune regularly to remove:
    • Dead or weak stems
    • Faded flowers (deadheading encourages new blooms)
  • Best time: late winter or early spring.

🐞 8. Pest & Disease Care

Watch out for:

  • Aphids, spider mites, black spot, or powdery mildew
🧴 Spray neem oil + mild soap solution weekly to prevent these.

🌸 9. Flowering & Maintenance

  • Roses bloom best with sun, pruning, and regular feeding.
  • Remove old blooms to promote new ones.
  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and control weeds.
