Hybrid Plumeria (Frangipani) is a tropical flowering plant that produces large, fragrant blooms in many colors such as pink, red, yellow, orange, white, and multicolor. It grows best in warm, sunny conditions and is relatively easy to care for.
1. Sunlight (Most Important)
- Provide 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- More sunlight results in more flowers and stronger growth.
- Plants grown in shade produce fewer blooms and may become tall and weak.
2. Watering
- Water thoroughly, then allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry before watering again.
- During summer: water every 3–5 days, depending on the weather.
- During the monsoon: water only if the soil becomes dry.
- During winter (dormancy): water sparingly, about every 10–15 days if the soil is dry.
Avoid overwatering, as Plumeria is prone to root rot.
3. Soil
Use a fast-draining potting mix. A good mix is:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% coarse sand
- 20% compost or vermicompost
- 10% perlite or coco chips (optional)
The pot must have good drainage holes.
4. Temperature
- Ideal temperature: 20–35°C
- Thrives in hot weather and is well suited to most parts of India.
5. Fertilizer
Feed once every 3–4 weeks during the growing season.
Choose a fertilizer with higher phosphorus and potassium (such as NPK 10-30-20 or 5-10-10) to encourage flowering.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which promotes leaves instead of flowers.
6. Pruning
- Prune after the flowering season or in late winter.
- Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches.
- Pruning encourages branching, and more branches usually mean more flower clusters.
7. Repotting
- Repot every 2–3 years or when the roots fill the pot.
- Use only a pot slightly larger than the current one.
