Buddha Jui (Juhi/Juhi Jasmine) is one of the most fragrant jasmine varieties grown in India. Its botanical name is Jasminum auriculatum. It blooms mainly from spring through the monsoon and fills the garden with a sweet fragrance, especially in the evening.

  • Needs 5–6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Morning sun is ideal.
  • Too much shade results in fewer flowers.

Soil

Use a well-draining soil mix:

  • 40% garden soil
  • 30% compost or vermicompost
  • 20% river sand
  • 10% cocopeat or leaf compost

The soil should never stay soggy.

Watering

  • Water only when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry.
  • During summer: every 2–3 days (depending on weather).
  • During monsoon: water only if the soil becomes dry.
  • During winter: reduce watering.

Avoid waterlogging, as it can cause root rot.

Fertilizer

For maximum flowering:

  • Every 15–20 days:
    • 1–2 handfuls of vermicompost.
  • Once a month:
    • Bone meal: 1 tablespoon (or)
    • Mustard cake liquid fertilizer: 200–300 ml.
  • During flowering:
    • Add banana peel fertilizer or potash-rich organic fertilizer once every 15 days.

Avoid excessive nitrogen, which produces more leaves than flowers.

Pruning

  • Prune lightly after the main flowering season.
  • Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches.
  • New branches produce more flowers.

Pot Size

  • Start with a 12-inch pot.
  • Mature plants perform best in 16–18 inch pots.

Ensure the pot has good drainage holes.

Temperature

  • Best growth: 20–35°C
  • Can tolerate Indian summers if watered properly.
  • Protect from frost in winter.

Monsoon Care

Since it is currently the rainy season:

  • Keep the pot where rainwater doesn’t collect.
  • Spray neem oil every 15 days to prevent fungal diseases.
  • Remove yellow leaves and spent flowers.
