Red Mansa / Red Euphorbia trigona (often called African Milk Tree – red form) is easy to grow if you treat it like a succulent, not a leafy plant 🌵
🌞 Light (MOST IMPORTANT)
- Needs bright light to full sun
- Best color (deep red) comes from direct sunlight
- Outdoors: morning sun + light afternoon sun
- Indoors: near south or west-facing window
❗ Low light = green color + weak growth
🌱 Soil
- Must be very fast draining
- Best mix:
- 50% cactus/succulent mix
- 30% sand or perlite
- 20% garden soil or cocopeat
- Never use heavy or clay soil
💧 Watering
- Water only when soil is completely dry
- Summer: every 7–10 days
- Winter: every 3–4 weeks
- Overwatering = root rot + stem softening ❌
Rule: If unsure, don’t water.
🌡️ Temperature
- Ideal: 20–35°C
- Cannot tolerate frost
- Protect from cold winds and heavy rain
🪴 Pot & Placement
- Use terracotta or cement pot with drainage holes
- Pot should be stable (plant gets tall & heavy)
- Repot every 2–3 years
🌿 Fertilizer
- Feed lightly during growing season (spring–summer)
- Use cactus fertilizer or very diluted balanced fertilizer
- Once every 30–40 days
- No fertilizer in winter
✂️ Pruning & Shape Control
- Can be pruned to control height
- Best time: summer
- Wear gloves — milky sap is toxic
- After cutting, let the cut dry (callus) before watering
🌱 Propagation (Easy!)
- Cut a healthy stem
- Rinse sap with water
- Let cutting dry 5–7 days
- Plant in dry cactus soil
- Water after 7–10 days
