🌿 1. About the Plant
- Botanical name: Plumeria spp.
- Common names: Champa, Frangipani, Temple tree
- Type: Tropical, deciduous flowering tree
- Height: 5–20 feet (depending on variety & pruning)
🌞 2. Sunlight
- Needs plenty of direct sunlight — at least 6–8 hours per day for healthy growth and flowering.
- Without enough sun, it grows leggy and won’t bloom well.
🌾 3. Soil
- Prefers well-draining soil — sandy or loamy soil is ideal.
- Good mix for pots:
👉 1 part garden soil + 1 part river sand/perlite + 1 part compost or coco peat.
Tip: Avoid heavy clay soil — roots rot easily in soggy conditions.
💧 4. Watering
- Water moderately — let the top 2 inches of soil dry before watering again.
- Overwatering is the most common cause of death!
- During winter or dormant months, water sparingly.
🌸 5. Planting (from Cutting)
Easiest and fastest method 👇
- Take a healthy stem cutting (8–12 inches long).
- Let it dry for 3–5 days until the cut end forms a callus.
- Plant in sandy, well-draining soil.
- Keep in bright light but not harsh sun until roots form (about 4–6 weeks).
🪴 6. Pot or Ground
- Pot size: Start with 12–16 inch pot with drainage holes.
- In ground: Choose a sunny, open spot — avoid areas that flood easily.
🍀 7. Fertilizing
- Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn).
- Use a fertilizer high in phosphorus (middle number) to promote flowering.
👉 Example: 10-30-10 or bone meal. - Stop feeding in winter.
✂️ 8. Pruning & Care
- Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth starts.
- Remove dead or weak branches to shape the tree and encourage new flowers.
- Wipe large leaves occasionally to keep them dust-free.
🌼 9. Flowering Season
- Blooms from spring through fall (March to October, depending on climate).
- Flowers are used in temple offerings, garlands, perfumes
