Patharchatta (Bergenia ligulata) is a well-known herb in Ayurveda. It is also called Pashanbheda because it “breaks stones” (pathar = stone, chhatt = breaker).
🌱 How to Plant Patharchatta
1. Climate & Soil
- Prefers cool, subtropical to temperate climates.
- Grows well in well-drained loamy soil, slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6–7).
- Can be grown in pots or garden beds.
2. Propagation
- By Rhizomes: Most common. Cut healthy rhizomes into 2–3 inch pieces and plant.
- By Seeds: Less common; germination is slower.
3. Planting
- Plant rhizomes 2–3 inches deep, 12–18 inches apart.
- Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Watering & Care
- Water moderately; avoid standing water.
- Mulch around the plant to retain moisture and protect roots.
- Fertilize lightly with organic compost every 2–3 months.
5. Sunlight
- Partial shade to full sunlight; too harsh direct sun may scorch leaves.
