Onion microgreens are tiny, nutrient-packed versions of onions that are easy to grow at home.
🪴 How to Plant Onion Microgreen Seeds
1. Materials Needed
- Onion seeds (for microgreens)
- Shallow tray with drainage holes
- Seed-starting soil or a mix of potting soil and compost
- Spray bottle for watering
- Light source (sunny windowsill or grow light)
2. Steps to Grow
- Prepare the tray
- Fill the tray with 1–2 inches of soil. Flatten it gently.
- Sow the seeds
- Sprinkle onion seeds evenly across the soil surface. They can be a little dense but avoid overlapping too much.
- Cover lightly
- Sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top or gently press seeds into soil. Some growers just leave them on top.
- Water gently
- Use a spray bottle to moisten the soil without washing away seeds.
- Provide light
- Place in a sunny spot (4–6 hours/day) or under a grow light.
- Keep soil moist
- Mist daily to keep soil damp but not waterlogged.
- Harvest
- Onion microgreens are usually ready in 10–14 days, when they are 2–4 inches tall.
- Cut just above the soil line with scissors.
