Alfalfa microgreens are tiny, nutrient-packed sprouts from alfalfa seeds.
🥄 How to Plant Alfalfa Microgreens
You’ll need:
- Alfalfa seeds
- Shallow tray or container with drainage holes
- Growing medium: soil, coconut coir, or hydroponic mat
- Spray bottle for watering
Steps:
- Soak seeds
- Soak 1–2 tablespoons of seeds in water for 6–8 hours (or overnight) to start germination.
- Prepare tray
- Fill tray with 1–2 inches of soil or place your hydroponic mat.
- Spread seeds
- Drain soaked seeds and spread them evenly on top of the soil. Don’t bury them—just cover lightly if using soil.
- Water gently
- Mist with a spray bottle to moisten seeds without washing them away.
- Cover
- Optional: Cover tray with another tray or a lid to create darkness for the first 2–3 days (helps germination).
- Light & water
- Once sprouts appear (2–3 days), expose them to indirect sunlight or LED grow lights.
- Mist 2–3 times daily to keep moist.
- Harvest
- Alfalfa microgreens are ready in 7–10 days, when they are about 2–3 inches tall.
- Cut just above the soil line with scissors.
