🌿 1. About the Plant
- Botanical name: Ipomoea purpurea (common variety)
- Common names: Morning Glory, Blue Dawn Vine, Shankhapushpi (in some regions)
- Type: Annual or perennial climbing vine
- Height: 6–12 feet or more
- Flower colors: Blue, purple, pink, white, red
🌞 2. Sunlight
- Full sunlight (6–8 hours daily) is essential for flowering.
- Grows best on balconies, fences, or sunny walls.
☀️ The more sunlight, the more blooms!
🌾 3. Soil
- Prefers loose, well-draining soil.
- Ideal mix:
👉 1 part garden soil + 1 part compost + 1 part sand or coco peat. - Slightly alkaline to neutral soil is fine.
💧 4. Watering
- Water regularly but lightly — keep soil moist, not soggy.
- Reduce watering during rainy or cold weather.
💧 Tip: Morning Glories don’t like “wet feet” (standing water causes rot).
🌱 5. Planting (from seeds)
- Soak seeds in water overnight before planting — helps germination.
- Sow seeds ½ inch deep directly in pots or ground.
- Germination takes 7–10 days in warm weather.
- Provide a trellis or fence early — they climb fast!
🍀 6. Fertilizing
- Use mild compost or organic fertilizer once a month.
- Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizer — it encourages leaves, not flowers.
💡 A mix of vermicompost + bone meal works perfectly.
✂️ 7. Maintenance & Pruning
- Prune lightly to control growth and encourage new vines.
- Remove dry leaves and faded flowers regularly.
- Provide support early — bamboo sticks, netting, or railing work well.
🌸 8. Flowering
- Blooms in 2–3 months after planting, mainly spring through autumn.
- Flowers open in the morning and close by afternoon.
- Each vine produces dozens of flowers daily.
🌾 9. Propagation
- Best by seeds (easy).
- You can also save dried seed pods after flowering to plant next season.
