The Moonglow Hybrid Echeveria (Echeveria ‘Moonglow’) is a stunning, rosette-forming succulent known for its pale bluish-green leaves with a powdery coating and sometimes a pinkish hue at the edges. It’s a hybrid of Echeveria pulidonis and Echeveria derenbergii, and while it can thrive outdoors in warm climates, it also does beautifully indoors when cared for properly.
🌞 Light
- Needs bright, indirect sunlight or several hours of direct morning sun.
- Ideal placement: a south- or east-facing window.
- If it starts stretching or losing color, it’s not getting enough light (this is called etiolation).
- In low-light rooms, use a grow light for 10–12 hours a day.
💧 Watering
- Follow the “soak and dry” method:
- Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry.
- Let excess water drain out—never let it sit in water.
- Water less in winter (every 3–4 weeks) when growth slows down.
- Always avoid watering on the rosette, as trapped water can cause rot.
🌱 Soil
- Use a fast-draining succulent or cactus mix.
- You can make your own by mixing:
- 2 parts cactus soil
- 1 part perlite or pumice
- Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.
🪴 Pot
- Use a terracotta or clay pot with drainage holes.
- These materials help absorb extra moisture from the soil.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
- Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C) during the day.
- Keep above 50°F (10°C) in winter.
- Avoid high humidity—dry indoor air is ideal.
🌸 Fertilizing
- Feed lightly during the growing season (spring and summer):
- Use a diluted succulent fertilizer (half strength) once a month.
- No need to fertilize in fall or winter.
🌿 Pruning & Maintenance
- Remove dead or dried leaves at the base to prevent pests.
- If it gets leggy, you can behead and propagate the top rosette.
🌱 Propagation
- Easily propagated by leaf cuttings, offsets, or stem cuttings:
- Let the cuttings callous over for 1–2 days.
- Plant in dry, well-draining soil and mist lightly until roots form.
