The Gulmohar tree (Delonix regia), also called Flame Tree or Royal Poinciana, is a popular ornamental tree in India. It’s famous for its vibrant red-orange flowers and shade-providing canopy.
🌱 How to Plant Gulmohar Tree
1. Propagation
- By Seeds: Most common. Seeds have a hard coat; soak in water for 24 hours before sowing for faster germination.
- By Saplings / Nursery Plants: Planting 1–2 year old saplings ensures faster growth and flowering.
2. Soil Requirement
- Prefers well-drained sandy loam but grows in a wide range of soils.
- Can tolerate slightly acidic to neutral pH (6–7.5).
3. Sunlight
- Full sunlight is essential for strong growth and abundant flowering.
4. Planting Steps
- Dig a hole twice the size of root ball or seedling.
- Mix soil with compost or organic manure for nutrients.
- Place the seedling or germinated seed carefully and cover with soil.
- Water immediately after planting.
5. Watering
- Young plants: Water regularly to establish roots.
- Mature trees: Drought-tolerant; water occasionally.
6. Spacing
- Plant 8–10 meters apart due to wide canopy.
7. Maintenance
- Minimal pruning to remove dead branches and shape the tree.
- Fertilize annually with organic compost to boost growth.
