Chandramallika (Jasmine species, likely Jasminum sambac or similar). It’s a fragrant flowering plant widely grown in India.
1. How to Plant Chandramallika (Jasmine)
A. From Cuttings
- Select a healthy stem: 4–6 inches from a mature plant, preferably semi-hardwood.
- Remove lower leaves leaving 2–3 leaves at the top.
- Rooting:
- Dip the cut end in rooting hormone (optional, accelerates growth).
- Plant in a pot with well-draining soil or directly in garden soil.
- Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy.
- Sunlight: Requires full sun to partial shade.
B. From Layering
- Bend a low branch into soil and cover part with soil while keeping the tip above ground. Roots form in a few weeks, then cut from the parent plant.
C. Care
- Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil with compost.
- Watering: 2–3 times a week in summer, less in winter.
- Fertilizer: Monthly application of organic manure promotes flowering.
- Pruning: Trim after flowering to encourage bushy growth.
- Pests: Generally resistant, but aphids or mealybugs may appear.
