Shikakai (Acacia concinna) has been used in India for centuries as a natural hair cleanser and conditioner. The dried whole pods (fruits), along with leaves and bark, are most commonly used.
🌸 How to Use Dried Whole Shikakai
1. Shikakai Hair Wash (Traditional Way)
- Take 5–6 dried pods (adjust based on hair length).
- Break into pieces and soak overnight in water.
- Next morning, boil until soft.
- Cool, mash, and strain the liquid.
- Use this as a natural shampoo on wet hair.
2. Shikakai Powder (Easier Method)
- Dry roast whole pods slightly and grind into fine powder.
- Mix 2–3 tbsp powder with warm water to make a paste.
- Apply to scalp and hair, massage gently, rinse with lukewarm water.
3. Shikakai Hair Oil (for growth & conditioning)
- Crush dried shikakai pieces.
- Add to coconut or sesame oil and boil on low flame.
- Let it infuse for 1–2 weeks in sunlight (or keep for 2–3 days after boiling).
- Strain and use as hair oil.
4. Shikakai + Reetha + Amla Mix (Most Popular)
- Combine equal parts of dried shikakai, reetha (soapnut), and amla.
- Make powder or soak/boil together to prepare herbal shampoo.
