🌿 1. About Euphorbia
- Botanical name: Euphorbia spp.
- Common types:
- 🌵 Euphorbia trigona (African Milk Tree)
- 🌺 Euphorbia milii (Crown of Thorns)
- 🌿 Euphorbia tirucalli (Pencil Cactus / Firestick)
- Type: Succulent or semi-cactus plant
- Native to: Africa and Madagascar
- Lifespan: Long-living perennial
🌞 2. Sunlight
- Loves bright sunlight — at least 4–6 hours daily.
- Can tolerate full sun or partial shade.
- Indoor Euphorbias should be placed near a south or west-facing window.
🌾 3. Soil
- Prefers well-draining, sandy soil (similar to cactus mix).
- Ideal potting mix:
👉 1 part garden soil + 1 part sand/perlite + 1 part compost or coco peat. - Drainage is very important — roots rot easily in soggy soil.
💧 4. Watering
- Euphorbia is drought-tolerant.
- Water only when the top 2–3 inches of soil are completely dry.
- Reduce watering in winter.
- Avoid letting water sit in the pot tray.
💡 Tip: When in doubt — it’s safer to underwater than overwater Euphorbia!
🪴 5. Pot & Placement
- Use a terracotta or clay pot with large drainage holes.
- Place in a sunny, airy location (balcony, terrace, or window ledge).
🍀 6. Fertilizing
- Feed lightly during the growing season (spring to early fall):
- Use a diluted liquid succulent fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks.
- Avoid overfeeding — too much fertilizer causes soft, weak growth.
✂️ 7. Pruning & Propagation
- Prune in spring to remove dead or leggy stems.
- Propagation:
- Cut a healthy stem and let it dry for 1–2 days (milky sap should seal).
- Plant in sandy soil — roots form in about 2–3 weeks.
⚠️ Important: Euphorbia sap (white latex) is toxic — wear gloves, and keep away from eyes and pets.
🌸 8. Flowering
- Many types (like Crown of Thorns) bloom year-round in warm, sunny weather.
- Flowers are small but colorful and long-lasting.
