🌱 How to Plant Ashwagandha
1. Climate & Soil
- Climate: Warm, dry regions; tolerates drought
- Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil; pH 7–8
- Sunlight: Full sun, at least 6–8 hours daily
2. Propagation
- Seeds: Most common method
- Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting
- Sow in nursery trays or directly in field (0.5–1 cm deep)
- Stem Cuttings: Can also propagate using 10–15 cm woody cuttings
3. Planting
- Spacing: 45–60 cm between plants
- Planting Season: Early spring (Feb–March) or start of monsoon in some regions
- Watering: Moderate; avoid waterlogging
4. Care
- Fertilizer: Organic compost or vermicompost; avoid excess nitrogen
- Weeding: Keep area weed-free for first 3–4 months
- Pests/Diseases: Relatively resistant; occasional aphids or leaf spot can occur
5. Harvest
- Leaves: Can be harvested after 2–3 months for medicinal use
- Roots: Ready after 150–180 days; wash, dry, and store in a cool, dry place.
