Common Fig (Anjeer) in a pot is actually quite easy
1️⃣ Choose the Right Pot
- Start with a large pot (at least 12–16 inches deep).
- Make sure it has good drainage holes.
- As the plant grows, shift it to a 20–24 inch pot.
Best materials: terracotta or thick plastic pots.
2️⃣ Prepare the Soil Mix
Fig plants need well-drained soil.
Good potting mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost or vermicompost
- 20% cocopeat
- 10% sand or perlite
Mix everything well before planting.
3️⃣ Planting the Fig
You can grow figs from:
- Cuttings (best and fastest)
- Nursery plant
Planting steps:
- Fill the pot with soil mix.
- Plant the cutting or sapling in the center.
- Water lightly after planting.
4️⃣ Sunlight Requirement ☀️
Figs need 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Good places:
- Balcony with sun
- Rooftop
- Near a sunny window
5️⃣ Watering 💧
- Water 2–3 times a week in summer.
- Reduce watering in winter.
- Do not overwater — soil should be moist, not soggy.
Tip: Let the top 2–3 cm soil dry before watering again.
6️⃣ Fertilizer
Every 3–4 weeks add:
- Vermicompost
- Cow dung compost
- Banana peel fertilizer
Avoid too much nitrogen fertilizer.
7️⃣ Pruning ✂️
- Trim branches once a year.
- Remove weak or crossing branches.
- Pruning encourages more fruiting.
