🌿 How to Plant Broccoli Microgreen Seeds
Materials Needed
- Broccoli seeds (microgreen variety)
- Shallow tray with drainage holes
- Seed-starting soil or coconut coir
- Spray bottle
- Light source (sunny windowsill or grow light)
Step-by-Step Planting
- Soak seeds (optional but recommended)
- Soak seeds in water for 6–8 hours to speed up germination.
- Prepare the tray
- Fill 1–2 inches of soil or coconut coir in the tray.
- Level it gently.
- Sow seeds
- Spread seeds evenly on top of the soil. They can be close together; no need to bury them.
- Lightly press seeds to ensure contact with soil.
- Water gently
- Use a spray bottle to mist the seeds. Soil should be damp, not waterlogged.
- Cover and germinate
- Cover the tray with a lid or another tray to keep humidity high.
- Keep in a dark or low-light spot for 2–3 days.
- Expose to light
- Once sprouts appear, remove the cover and place the tray in indirect sunlight or under grow lights.
- Continue misting once or twice daily to keep soil moist.
- Harvest
- Microgreens are usually ready in 7–14 days, when they are 1–3 inches tall and have their first true leaves.
- Cut above the soil line using scissors.
🥗 How to Eat Broccoli Microgreens
- Raw: Toss into salads, sandwiches, wraps, or smoothies.
- Garnish: Sprinkle on soups, omelets, or pasta.
- Juice: Blend into green juices for an antioxidant boost.
Note: Avoid cooking for long periods as heat can destroy some of the nutrients; they’re best fresh or lightly added at the end of cooking.
