White Jamun is a rare variety of Jamun with creamy white to pale yellow fruits. Its care is very similar to the common purple Jamun, but it requires proper sunlight, watering, and nutrition for healthy growth and fruiting.

Sunlight

  • Needs 6–8 hours of direct sunlight every day.
  • Young plants can tolerate light afternoon shade during extreme summer.
  • More sunlight leads to better flowering and sweeter fruits.

Temperature

  • Ideal: 20–35°C
  • Tolerates up to 42°C with regular watering.
  • Can tolerate mild winter but protect young plants from frost.

Soil

Use a well-draining, fertile soil.

Best soil mix for pots:

  • 40% garden soil
  • 30% well-rotted cow manure or compost
  • 20% river sand
  • 10% cocopeat or leaf compost

Soil pH: 6.0–7.5

Pot Size

  • Start with a 14–16 inch pot for young plants.
  • Shift to a 24–30 inch container after 1–2 years.
  • For maximum growth and fruiting, plant it in the ground.

Watering

  • Water deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
  • Summer: every 2–3 days.
  • Monsoon: water only if the soil begins to dry.
  • Winter: every 5–7 days, depending on weather.

Avoid waterlogging, as it can cause root rot.

Fertilizer

Every month:

  • 2–3 handfuls of vermicompost or cow manure.
  • 1 tablespoon neem cake powder.

Every 2 months:

  • Bone meal: 1–2 tablespoons (for stronger roots and flowering).

During flowering:

  • Banana peel compost or wood ash (small amount) can provide extra potassium.

Mulching

Add a 2–3 cm layer of:

  • Dry leaves
  • Rice straw
  • Coco chips

Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps roots cool.

Pruning

  • Remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches.
  • Light pruning after harvesting encourages new growth.
  • Do not prune heavily during flowering.

Flowering & Fruiting

  • Seed-grown plants may take 6–10 years to fruit.
  • Grafted plants usually fruit in 3–5 years with proper care.
  • Flowers generally appear in spring, with fruits ripening in summer.
