Shikakai powder is a traditional Indian herb used mainly for natural hair cleansing and care. It’s gentle, chemical-free, and full of nutrients that promote hair growth, reduce dandruff, and make hair soft and shiny.
🌿 1. As a Natural Shampoo (Hair Wash)
Ingredients:
- 2–3 tbsp shikakai powder (adjust for hair length)
- 1 tbsp reetha (soapnut) powder (optional, for more lather)
- 1 tbsp amla powder (optional, for shine & strength)
- 2–3 cups water
Steps:
- Boil the powders in water for 10–15 minutes.
- Let it cool and strain the liquid.
- Use this as a natural shampoo — massage it into your scalp and hair.
- Leave it for 5 minutes, then rinse with normal or lukewarm water.
- Follow with a mild conditioner or aloe vera gel if needed.

💆 2. As a Hair Mask for Strong, Shiny Hair
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp shikakai powder
- 1 tbsp amla powder
- 1 tbsp bhringraj or hibiscus powder (optional)
- 2–3 tbsp yogurt or aloe vera gel
- Water to make a paste
Steps:
- Mix all ingredients into a thick paste.
- Apply it to your scalp and hair roots.
- Leave for 30–40 minutes.
- Rinse with plain water or mild herbal shampoo.
🌸 3. As a Hair Rinse (Final Wash)
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp shikakai powder
- 2 cups water
Steps:
- Soak overnight or boil for 10 minutes.
- Strain and use the water as your final hair rinse after shampooing.
- Let hair dry naturally.
⚖️ 4. For Oily Scalp Control
Mix shikakai + multani mitti + rose water into a paste.
Apply to scalp for 20 minutes, then rinse.
This removes excess oil and refreshes the scalp.
