🌱 How to grow Light Orange Datura in a pot
1. Choose a pot
- Use a 12–18 inch pot with good drainage holes.
- One plant per pot is preferable because Datura can become quite bushy.
- Use a heavy pot if possible, as a mature plant can become large.
2. Soil mix
A simple mix:
- 40% normal garden soil
- 30% compost or well-rotted cow manure
- 20% cocopeat
- 10% sand/perlite
The soil should remain moist but never waterlogged.
3. Planting
- Sow seeds about 0.5–1 cm deep.
- Keep the soil lightly moist.
- Germination usually takes around 1–3 weeks, depending on temperature.
- Once the seedling has several true leaves, move it to its final pot.
4. Sunlight ☀️
Give it 5–8 hours of direct sunlight every day. More sunlight generally encourages stronger growth and flowering.
5. Watering 💧
- Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil becomes dry.
- During hot weather, it may need more frequent watering.
- Avoid keeping the pot continuously wet.
6. Feeding
During active growth, give compost or a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks. Once established, adequate sunlight and feeding will encourage more branches and flowers.
7. Pruning
Pinch the growing tips when the plant is young to encourage side branches and a bushier shape. Remove dead or damaged growth when necessary.
