White oxalis is usually very easy to grow from bulbs/bulb-like underground offsets. If you have the bulbs, you can multiply them quickly in pots.
🌱 How to grow White Oxalis from bulbs
1. Choose a pot
- Use a 6–8 inch pot for about 5–8 bulbs.
- Make sure the pot has good drainage holes.
- For a fuller plant, you can plant more bulbs together.
2. Soil mix
Use a loose, well-draining mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% compost/vermicompost
- 30% cocopeat + sand/perlite
Oxalis doesn’t like constantly soggy soil.
3. Plant the bulbs
- Plant bulbs about 2–3 cm deep.
- Keep the pointed/growing side upward if you can identify it.
- Cover lightly with soil.
- Leave roughly 3–5 cm spacing between bulbs.
4. Water
Give a thorough watering immediately after planting.
After that, water when the top layer of soil starts to dry. Don’t keep the soil continuously wet, as the bulbs can rot.
5. Light
Keep the pot in bright light with morning sunlight.
For West Bengal conditions, avoid strong hot afternoon sun during very hot weather. Around 3–5 hours of gentle sunlight is generally good.
🌿 What happens next?
Depending on temperature and bulb condition, shoots can appear in roughly 1–3 weeks. Once established, the plant produces leaves and eventually small white flowers.
After flowering, allow the foliage to grow and recharge the underground bulbs. Oxalis can naturally slow down or go dormant during unfavorable conditions. Don’t keep watering heavily when the plant has completely died back.
🌸 For a dense flowering pot
Plant several bulbs together rather than using one large bulb per pot. Once established, the underground bulbs/offsets can be separated during the dormant period and replanted to create more pots.
