🌱 How to grow Calathea orbifolia

1. Pot

• Start with an 8–10 inch pot with good drainage holes.
• Increase pot size gradually as the plant becomes root-bound.
• Avoid very large pots because excess wet soil can cause root problems.

2. Soil mix
Use a loose, moisture-retentive but well-draining mix:

• 40% cocopeat
• 30% compost/vermicompost
• 20% perlite
• 10% orchid bark or coarse coco chips

The soil should remain slightly moist but never waterlogged.

3. Light ☀️

• Give bright indirect light.
• A little gentle morning sunlight is fine.
• Avoid strong afternoon/direct sunlight, which can burn the large leaves.
• Too little light can make growth slower.

4. Watering 💧

• Water when the top 1–2 cm of soil feels slightly dry.
• Water thoroughly until some water drains from the bottom.
• Don’t allow the pot to sit in collected water.
• Calathea generally dislikes letting the soil become completely dry.

5. Humidity
This is one of the most important factors.

• Aim for around 50–70% humidity or higher.
• Keep it away from strong AC/fan airflow.
• A humidifier or grouping plants together can help.

6. Temperature
Best growth is around 18–30°C.
Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

During active growth, feed about once every 3–4 weeks with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Avoid heavy fertilizer applications.
