About the Plant

Haworthia mutica, commonly known as Window Haworthia, is a small, slow-growing succulent native to South Africa. It is prized for its thick, fleshy leaves with transparent “windows” at the tips, allowing sunlight to penetrate deep into the leaf tissue. It is an excellent low-maintenance indoor plant.

Pot Requirements

• Use a 3–5 inch pot with drainage holes.

Best Potting Mix

Use a fast-draining succulent mix:

• 40% cactus/succulent soil
• 30% coarse river sand
• 20% perlite or pumice
• 10% cocopeat

Avoid heavy garden soil, which can cause root rot.

Light

• Bright, indirect sunlight is ideal.
• Morning sunlight for 2–4 hours is beneficial.
• Avoid strong afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves.
• Indoors, place near an east- or north-facing window.

Watering

• Water only when the soil is completely dry.
• Summer: every 10–14 days.
• Winter: every 3–4 weeks.
• Never allow water to collect in the center of the rosette.

Temperature

• Ideal temperature: 18–30°C
• Protect from frost and temperatures below 5°C.

Fertilizer

• Feed once every 2–3 months during spring and summer.
• Use a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer at half strength.
• Do not fertilize during winter dormancy.

Humidity

• Prefers low to moderate humidity.
• Good air circulation helps prevent fungal issues.

Propagation

• Offsets (pups) are the easiest method.
• Can also be propagated from healthy leaves, though this is slower.
