hybrid grafted Nashpati (Pear) plant starts fruiting much earlier than a seed-grown tree—usually within 2–4 years if properly cared for. Grafted plants also produce larger, better-quality fruits.
Climate
- Best temperature: 10–30°C
- Suitable for North India and cooler parts of India.
- In warmer states, grow it where winters are relatively cool.
- Avoid prolonged waterlogging during the monsoon.
Sunlight
- Provide 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- More sunlight results in better flowering and sweeter fruits.
Soil
Use a well-draining, fertile soil mix:
- 40% garden soil
- 30% well-rotted compost or vermicompost
- 20% river sand
- 10% cocopeat (optional)
Ideal soil pH: 6.0–7.0.
Pot or Ground
- Ground planting: Best for maximum fruit production.
- Container: Use at least a 24-inch (60 cm) pot with drainage holes.
Planting
- Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball.
- Keep the graft union (swollen joint) 4–6 inches above the soil level.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
- Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the plant, but do not let it touch the trunk.
Watering
- Water deeply 2–3 times per week during summer.
- During monsoon, water only if the soil becomes dry.
- Avoid standing water around the roots.
Fertilizer
Apply every 30–45 days during the growing season:
- 1–2 kg compost or vermicompost
- 50–100 g neem cake
- Balanced NPK (10:10:10) as recommended for fruit trees if needed.
Pruning
- Remove dead, diseased, and crossing branches every year.
- Remove all shoots growing below the graft union, as they belong to the rootstock.
- Keep the canopy open for good air circulation.
Flowering and Fruiting
- Hybrid grafted plants generally flower from late winter to spring (depending on climate).
- Fruits mature in summer to early monsoon, depending on the variety.
