Phoenix Palm Indoor Plant

The Phoenix palm (commonly called date palm or pygmy date palm, depending on species) is a hardy, tropical-looking plant that’s fairly easy to grow if you get a few basics right.

🌴 1. Light Requirements

• Loves full sun to partial shade
• Ideally: 4–8 hours of direct sunlight daily
• Indoors: place near a south- or west-facing window

💧 2. Watering

• Keep soil slightly moist but not soggy
• Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry
• Avoid overwatering → can cause root rot

Tip: In summer (especially in hot places like West Bengal), water more frequently; reduce in winter.

🌱 3. Soil

• Needs well-draining soil
• Best mix:
  • Garden soil + sand + compost (1:1:1)
• You can also use cactus/palm mix

🌡️ 4. Temperature & Humidity

• Ideal temperature: 18°C–35°C
• Tolerates heat well, but:
  • Protect from cold below 10°C
• Likes moderate humidity, but adapts to normal conditions

🪴 5. Potting & Repotting

• Choose a pot with good drainage holes
• Repot every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow pot
• Don’t disturb roots too much—it prefers being slightly root-bound

🌿 6. Fertilizing

• Feed every 4–6 weeks in growing season (spring–summer)
• Use:
  • Liquid fertilizer OR
  • Slow-release palm fertilizer
• Avoid overfeeding → can burn roots
