The Rhapis palm, commonly called the Lady Palm (Rhapis excelsa), is one of the easiest and most elegant indoor palms you can grow. It’s popular because it tolerates low light and needs relatively little maintenance.
🌿 Light Requirements
- Prefers bright, indirect light
- Can tolerate low light, but growth will slow
- Avoid direct harsh sunlight (can scorch leaves)
👉 Ideal spots: near a north or east-facing window
💧 Watering
- Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy
- Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry
- Reduce watering in winter
⚠️ Overwatering = root rot (most common problem)
🌱 Soil & Potting
- Use well-draining potting mix (add sand or perlite)
- Pot must have drainage holes
- Repot every 2–3 years (they like being slightly root-bound)
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
- Ideal temperature: 15–27°C
- Avoid cold drafts (below 10°C can harm it)
- Prefers moderate humidity, but adapts to normal indoor air
👉 In dry climates, occasional misting helps
