The Zigzag plant (Pedilanthus tithymaloides), also called Devil’s Backbone, is a hardy, decorative succulent-like shrub known for its zigzag stems and colorful foliage.
🌱 Light Requirements
- Prefers bright, indirect sunlight
- Can tolerate some direct morning sun, but harsh afternoon sun may scorch leaves
- Too little light → leggy growth and faded color
💧 Watering
- Water moderately
- Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry out before watering again
- Avoid overwatering → can cause root rot
- In winter: reduce watering
👉 Tip: It’s slightly drought-tolerant, so underwatering is safer than overwatering.
🌿 Soil
- Needs well-draining soil
- Ideal mix: garden soil + sand + compost (or cactus/succulent mix)
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
- Thrives in warm climates (18–30°C)
- Protect from cold below ~10°C
- Normal indoor humidity is fine
🪴 Potting & Repotting
- Use pots with drainage holes
- Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound
- Choose slightly larger pots—not too big
